Buried at the bottom of Sunday's Matier & Ross column is a blurb detailing the lengths ABC 7's Dan Noyes has been going to try and get an interview with everyone’s favorite femme fatale, Ruby Tourk. In the blurb, there's a few mildly snarky comments about Dan trying once again to get Gavin and how he's trying to stir things up with the issue of Ruby's time off.
Somehow, Andy Ross got his hands on Dan's e-mails to Benefits Magazine head honcho Tim Gaskin and then contacted Dan to get a comment. Which Dan did and then to show he's got nothing to hide, posted his correspondences on his I-Team blog.
Why is this a story of interest? Because, well, it's looking like we have a little competition going between the two-biggest/baddest investigative teams in the city. Yes, it's an investigative team catfight.
Meow.
Now why would M&R write that little blurb? Andy Ross contacted Noyes a little later saying he just thought it was an interesting blurb because they like to write about "high-profile personalities" and Dan is one. And yes, Dan lays in the sales-pitch pretty thick, but essentially, M&R are making a somewhat big deal about Dan merely doing his job. We also highly doubt M&R are not laying the sales pitch pretty thick themselves in an attempt to get a sit-down with Ruby. After all, an interview with Mrs. Tourk is probably the biggest "get" a reporter in this town can get. Are M&R trying to brown-nose their way into Mrs. Tourk's heart? Is Tim Gaskin, the one who forwarded Dan's e-mails to M&R more of a Channel 5 fan? Or is it just some healthy competition between everyone?
Let the cat fur fly.

Dan Noyes rocks. He is one of the best reporters in town. Comparatively, Matier & Ross are just gossip-mongering hacks. I have yet to see them break a story, or even cover a story, of any real importance.
One can read all kinds of think into this, was the Chronicle setting up Noyes through Tim Gaskin, and if so for what purpose. Another question then comes to mind was city hall behind it. The plot thickens as you stir it.
Who the hell is Tim Gaskin?
Dan has been the only reporter willing to report the truth about Gavin. Matier and Ross should be put in the datebook section of the paper. They have sunk to the level of entertainment tonight and access Hollywood. They have taken a hands-off approach to Gavin from the beginning taking marching orders from the Chronicle brass who is in love with Gel Boy. Any other politico and they would have been all over it. They have lost their edge. Sold out.
Campers,
Gaskin fronts for Benefit magazine, a puff publication designed to glorify the SF Swells. Get a copy. God knows what it cost to print. Dead tree and ink-wise, it's on a level with Architectural Digest but has no redeeming value.
Right now the publication looks like a litter box for the Mayor's shit. When Luke Thomas broke the story of the Tourk/Newsom affair by asking Ruby about it on an airplane headed for Morocco a couple of months back, tour chief host, Gus Murad (a developer appointed to the Small Business Commission by Newsom) threatened and insulted Luke in letters to the editor from Gus and his wife.
Then, old Gus, he pulls his advertising from the Fog City Journal and buys a full page ad in ... Benefit magazine. Probably just a coincidence.
Also probably a coincidence that Gus needs the approval of the Planning Commission dominated by Newsom so's he can gentrify his little piece of the Mission.
So, developers seeking favors pour money into Benefit magazine which then hires Tourk to keep her quiet while their readers are smearing her on SFist. Don't you love this town?
h.
Matier and Ross are indeed hacks. Shallow, brainless, hacks. Matier is insufferable and arrogant, while Ross is a right-wing, know-nothing pud.
They are the worst part of the Chron.
BTW: Noyes Rocks. YOU GO DAN!
Charities close to politicians are an old game. NPO's don't have to report their contributions the way politicians do. I looked around on Benefit's website and didn't find any mention of where they get their money.
Will SF ever have another credible newspaper besides the Chron? Being the only game in town, it seems to get lazier and lazier in its reporting. Instead we get lifestyle stories like the copy editor with cancer and sex slaves. Well, they did break that huge story about the botched date rape drug incident. Huge.
Tim Gaskin is sooooo lame. He probably gave away the emails to M&R to get his name associated with the scandal. Also, he's B.Mountz's boss. And he sucks.
Noyes vs M&R? No contest. Dan Noyes is actually doing his job.
What needs to be focused on in the Noyes Blog is the relationships of those supposedly representing the Tourk's. Sam Singer the spokesperson is a Gavin loving hack. The attorney hired by the Tourk's is Steven Kaye. Kaye is a huge Newsom supporter and a democratic party power broker. The foxes are definitely guarding the hen house in this case. It is absurd to believe that the Tourk's best interest is being guarded by these two. Sam Singer is pure trash. He is so tight with Platinum advisers it's sickening. He runs with the Darius Anderson, Chris Gruel, Kevin Shelley crew. In addition to being very close to Eric Jaye-- Gavin's campaign manager, they are Gavin's chief fund raisers. Sam Singer also represented Kevin Shelley when he had active State and Federal investigations. Now Shelley works for Darius. Shelley also had Eric Jaye as a chief advisor and campaign manager. Eric makes a habit of representing trash. The whole thing stinks! If that's not Bad enough Darius offered Alex a Job as a way to keep him on a short leash when the story first broke. How can these people live with themselves? The entire crew would prostitute their mothers for political and financial gain. Pure trash, the whole lot of them. The only losers are poor Alex and Ruby. They put their faith in that Trash and will one day have great regrets as a result.
Team M&R!
Dan Noyes is a sensationalist hack who humiliates city gardeners for kicks. Don't you guys read noyespollution.com?
Hey H,
Tell me how you feel about Jewish people.
Somehow I got on the list for Benefit magazine. What a waste of dead trees.
Bob he doesnt need to. Go to Fog City journal and you cna see his latest diatribe. Then maybe Luke Thomas, who I think runs the site, posts more holocaust victim pictures that h and him laugh over.
Dan Noyes is doing a great job! Is it just me or does anyone else get creeped out everytime a picture of Phil Bronstein shows up? I swear I can't look at those bugged out eyes without thinking he looks like a white supremist in for a life term at Pelican Bay. Phil might be a tool of Getty protecting Gavin but at least he's good for one thing, komono dragon food.
It's hard to believe so many people like Noyes' sensationalist garbage. Attacking city government on every little minutia, instead of important stories, isn't reporting, unless you think the Enquirer is run by the smartest people in news. His I-team reports come off looking like a Daily Show parody of a small town news program's "investigative journalism."
M&R actually know what they're talking about, and can provide useful analysis. Not sure who they even could have "sold out" to.
Noyes' reporting is interesting for sure and he points out much of the corruption around City Hall - its only too bad so few people seem to care. M&R are good as well, entertaining for sure but also afraid to take anybody to task.
Q:what is noyespollution.com?
A:Tendernob.
Campers,
The Mayor's a coward. Wait til GavinWatch splices together the clips of him running away from Noyes. Matier and Ross are cipher hacks for SF big money.

I've written about an Irish cabal (the RBA), a Chinese cabal (6 Companies) and a Jewish cabal (SFSOS). Guess which columns got the most play?
Seriously, Bob, I hate people individually as I meet them, regardless of race, creed, gender or national origin. I like to think that there's something to mock and detest in every group. I'm sure that if I met you that your personal deficiencies are such that I'd come to hate you for yourself, not for your membership in any group. I'm fair that way.

As an old speed freak myself, I recognize Bronstein's piercing gaze. Wanna hear something really scary? A few years back, Bronstein attacked Clint Reilly during a meeting of the Chron Editorial Board. He broke Reilly's leg (man, talk about a tough interview) and the Chron paid Reilly a couple of million bucks for his troubles. Then? Then, the cops gave Bronstein a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Yep, he's crazy and he's packing.
h.
If Dan wanted horrible revenge he would do a story on the board of directors of the Chronicle.
I believe that corporate intelligence is 'highly classified'. While the editorial board operates under journalistic standards of ethics, the corporate board is under no such restraint.
Noyes won't because he knows first how to keep his job and second how to be 'investigative'.
They watch each others' backs that way....
If you don't believe me try to find out for yourself who is on the board of directors of the Chronicle.
Since their owners, the Hearst Corp., are a private company they don't have to say.
Rumor is that there is or was at least one Newsom on the Chronicle corporate board.
Don't say you never got a message board 'tip'....
I'm still trying to figure out how a recovering alcoholic (Ruby Tourk) is the host of a Benefit Magazine radio show which is loaded with relapse triggers such as commercials for booze dispensing places, wine tasting events, and gliterati in-talk like blue martinis. If Gaskin were really Ruby's friend, he wouldn't be complicit in placing her in an environment that is quite dangerous for a recovering alcoholic. Somehow I have the feeling that Ruby (Alex, too) is in some kind of cocoon woven by the Newsom crowd. The end result isn't going to be good for the Tourks.
sfist, where is the jenn seibel blog?????
interesting comments about the mayor, as well as gus murad. i worked for gus for awhile running his place on mission. this guy makes capone look like a choirboy. and the mayor? if people really knew what he was like, he'd be under the jail. i dealt with gus daily, and he met with the mayor about once a week or so. gus breaks more laws, and has more violations in his building than a tenament in the TL. i walked away from my job as his number one because the whole thing was getting way too dirty. welcome to SF.
