We Read the Glossies

It's another edition of We Read the Glossies, courtesy of our resident magazine whore, SFist Elaine.

Last month's winner, San Francisco Magazine: Cover: Spring '07 Style Forecast. Is it just us, or does the model on the cover look a whole lot like Carmen Electra? Sadly, it's not Carmen, but we love the orange Prada dress she's sporting. Short Stories: spring's super-short dresses are fabulous, and inspire us to do more squats. (But we think we'll stick to knee-length, because the world has seen enough hoo ha lately to last a lifetime.) Deconstructing Eco-chic: Tips on how to dress green, and still look good. Style Counsel: An interview with Mellisa Ceria, the founder of ShareYourLook.com, a personal style website for anybody too shy to ask a stranger, "Cute bag. Where did you get it?" Not that anybody ever asks us that every day.

Next, Diablo: Cover: East Bay Nightlife guide. The East Bay's comin' up, y'all! Don't forget to vote for the Best of the East Bay poll by April 20. Local Luxe: fab accessories by local designers, and some style tips on how to wear them. Born into Boot Camp: today's high schoolers are stressed out. Perfect grades and test scores are just not enough anymore. Boy, do we remember those days. (Saint Ignatius Class of '01 forever!) People: Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Michael Chabon comes to Pleasanton for the Poetry, Prose, and Arts Festival on March 31st.

San Jose Magazine, 7x7, March's Glossy of the Month, and the YTD count after the jump.

San Jose: Cover: ABC 7 weather man and View from the Bay co-host Spencer Christian. Um, didn't they have a newscaster on the cover of last month's issue? FYI: the website only features the magazine in a RealReader Viewer format, with no direct links. City Scene: Rachael Ray at Sur La Table on Santana Row. Ray reveals that she will never do another Iron Chef America, and that she shops for food with her own cookbook. But she hides the cover so people won't know she carries around her own cookbook. Weimers' World: San Jose State celebrates its 150th anniversary. Yay! And Leigh Weimers was a student during the 100th anniversary, in 1957. That was the same year Playboy gave SJSU the coveted award for best party school.

Last but not least, 7x7: Cover: Spring fashion issue. Tom Boy: Lucky for us, our look is in this season. (Thanks, 7x7, we always knew we were hot.) Pale Fire: all shades of yellow are everywhere this spring, and look especially fresh when paired with white. Chill Factor: our two favorite things: food and accessories. Natalie column: Natalie gets chastised for skipping a friend's bachelorette party to go to Cannes. Now Neighborhoods: In the Bag: 7x7 interviews stylish shoppers, including the always-fierce Yurie Pascarella on her way to Neiman Marcus, a car salesman/drummer named Trey in Hayes Valley, and a chick hanging out at the Westfield mall. That was probably the one day we weren't at the food court. Final Say: our hero/mentor, Leilani Labong, interviews Vivienne Westwood. Vivienne's money quote: "I think people today never looked so ugly in the whole history of the entire world." Meow! But we kinda agree.

Although we enjoyed the eco-fashion in SF Mag this month, 7x7's fashion issue blew everybody else out of the water. Ever since we opened it, we've been scouring SF for the perfect yellow accessories, even though we said we'd never wear yellow. Thanks for making us a believer.

The YTD count: 7x7 and SF Mag 1, with Diablo and San Jose trailing behind. C'mon, glossies!
