SFist Answers: Towing And Selling Out
It's time for SFist Answers, trying to enjoy the weather from inside today.
Please, for your sake, send Questions you want Answered to sfistanswers@gmail.com, and we will do our best to provide.
Maybe walkies after this?:
Q: You asked for questions and here is mine: I have parked on the Valencia street median a few times when I saw other cars parked there. One night we saw people being towed on Valencia between 17th & 18th .On other nights we see cars parked. I would really like to know when is it OK to park in the median. ~~~ Molly \ Daly City
A: When we put your Question to the San Francisco Department of Traffic and Parking's Enforcement Division operator at 415 553-1631. They informed us that you're never supposed to park in the median on Valencia! Of course, plenty do. So, when do the authorities tow?
According to our intrepid operator, DPT is not dispatched to that area unless a neighbor calls and complains.
And what of SFPD? What's their role in this? "PD can do 'whatever' if they are in the area," said our operator briskly, "If they want to call it in to the tow trucks, they do." The police "usually try to 'locate' first, and then order the tow truck". How long does it take for a tow truck to respond? Fifteen to twenty minutes. "A busy Friday or Saturday night could take quite a while though."
Q: Amy Winehouse? Is she playing in SF? ~~~ Caroline
A: Yes, she'll be doing a pre-Coachella gig south of Market at Popscene.
The show is sold out, but you could still get in through craigslist or persistence at the door of the show. Here's the info:

Thanks!
Thanks!
People parking in the median is my second biggest SF driving pet peeve. Thanks for covering it!
Maybe the next questions can be - "When is it OK to double park on 24th street?" – the top frustration on my list. Remember folks, this street is busy and only has 2 lanes.
I think a couple of the church's and the mortuary at 26th street have permits for people to legally park in the median on Valencia. My theory is that people see that and assume it's cool for them to park in the median.
OK, cool; I'll check out the 24th St double-parking and mortuary/church situations next week!
In the Western Addition I think some of the drug dealers have permits for double parking too.
Ah, median parking. It's an eternal SFist question.
Funny how people become entitled. It's NEVER ok to park illegaly. Why would one even ask? If one gets away with it, great; if not, well, what do you want? It's not legal to park on a median strip.
I recently saw a Marina Chick arguing with a cop that "it's legal to park in your own driveway." Yes, the cop was saying, but it's NOT legal to block the sidewalk. If your driveway is not long enough or your car is too long to clear the sidewalk, you are PARKED ILLEGALLY!
Whooo, that Marina Chick was steamed, huffing and puffing over her ticket. Probably the first time a man said no to her.
