Call Me

gigolo-americano-poster01.jpgYou know that woman who was a Madame in the DC area who threatened to release all the names and info on her client list? Well, she just went out and released all the names and info on her client list. In an e-mail to a Washington D.C. radio station, the Madame, Deborah Jeane Palfrey, said she gave everything to "what I believe to be one of the most reputable and respected investigative news organizations in the country, to assist me with my needs." We somehow don't think she meant NPR.

One name that has already been bandied about is noted toe-sucker and Fox News suckup Dick Morris. Palfrey dropped his name but Morris denied it, even though he supposedly admitted to it in 1996. Side note-- we love how A.P covered their tracks on this, repeating the charge before saying it's not true. It's kind of an easy way to get around completely unsubstantiated charges. Like they could say, "we'd like to issue a correction-- Dick Cheny does not eat babies" but now the word is out that somebody thinks Dick Cheney eats babies.

In terms of what she's got, she apparently has forty-six pounds of records; including phone numbers around 10,000 clients. It is not known whether she is going to receive any money from any of this, but her lawyer said she got plenty of offers for it.

Palfrey also filed a suit against one of her escorts for having "illegal" sex with a client. She's claiming that her escort service was on the up-and-up except for this one client who had sex with people and, well, there's the illegality. That darn rogue hooker.

For those of you outside of Washington, WTOP is a most definitely the leading news, traffic and weather station in the area. It's a drive time must for nearly all local commuters. They have an active news gathering organization and regularly beat out even local TV and newspapers to scoops. It definitely has the cadence of old news radio -- and so for my NPR-lovin ears is too noisy -- but it's reputable and has an enormous listening audience including most top government and contracting officials. If you wanted to reach the largest audience in DC (and embarrass them on the way) WTOP is probably the best choice.
