Day Around the Bay

camp_pelosi_031207_lg.jpg-A 40-year old woman was gunned down in the parking lot of an Oakland Church Sunday morning by her estranged husband. Not that we're religious or anything, but we're just guessing shooting somebody as they're leaving church is not going to go over well with the Big Guy.

-There were two fires early Sunday morning-- an apartment building in SoMa and
another in a Municipal Railway train storage barn. Eleven people in the SoMa apartment building left eleven families without places to live.

-Hey, here's a surprise-- all those things that were supposed to have happened due to the early date for Daylight Saving Time didn't happen.

-There was a standoff at a Cybelle's Pizza in Oakland that led to a SWAT team being called in.

-Activists march across the Golden Gate Bridge and camp out in front of Pelosi's house.

-Wayans brothers development project isn't going so well.

-Paper bag ban bagged for awhile as the Board of Supes figure out whether they want to expand the ban.

-In a speech, Mirkarimi calls on Bush to resign.

Um, plastic bag ban, I think?

This statement scared me for a moment, "Paper bag ban." My Saturday's in Dolores would get ugly and fast.

My one question (Only one, Sal?) about the compostable "plastic" bags is ...

What happens to the recycling of plastic bags (you know, those plastic bags you take to Safeway and jam into their plastic bag recycling bin?) if compostable bags are in the mix?

Does the recycling process for (plastic bags + compostable bags) still produce good product or does it produce a contaminated recycled plastic that's iffy?

Are the compostable bags going to foul up recycling for non-compostable plastic bags out there in the neighborhood?

Anyone know?

Hey, is it just me, or did the clock for SFist's comments not spring forward? OMG, the horror!
