Hot Stuff: Food Section Round Up

Ooops! We thought this got posted yesterday....

We gobble the various food sections up each Wednesday. These are our favorite tidbits from yesterday's offerings:

SF Chronicle: Youthful chefs -- all under the age of 28, my God! -- make the cut for the Rising Chefs list. We'll take one order of Chef Nate Appleman's octopus & ceci bean zuppa, please. Don't be afraid of tentacles! All it takes is practice. After reading the Inside Scoop, we've got our speed dial at the ready for when Mexico DF opens. Notable nibbles include chocolate and corn based food. Dare we sing out "Si, Senor," at the risk of sounding un-PC and a bit cheesy?

San Jose Mercury News: Make your own sweet and sour sauce, although we admit to being more than a little afraid of anything with "toxic" (our cooking school instructors words, not ours) maraschino cherries. Decorate cookies with panache. Whole Foods goes bananas in the most eco-friendly of ways.

Oakland Tribune: Hummus increases in popularity. The reporter is spot on in recommending San Mateo's Aladdin Market & Deli. Shrimp gets spicy with salsa.
