Subscriptacular

Oh you lucky devil. You've always wanted -- yearned -- to subscribe to a feed of SFist's weekly popular posts, and now, by God, you can. Gothamist's awesome tech cabal has hooked us up with RSS feeds the week's most popular stories and also the month's most popular stories. Pitch 'em into your favorite feed reader and then sigh in post-coital bliss.

RSS, for those of you unfamiliar with the technology, is a relatively new means of transmitting data. The letters don't stand for anything (though rumor has it that they're named for the inventor's cats: Rasputin, Sassafras, and Stupid), but they enable cyberauthors (or "internet bloggists") to encapsulate data within microscopic electric pellets. By installing an RSS Nozzle on your computer, word processor, or Smith-Corona typewriter, you are able to "feed" information to a "feed eater" application. The only precaution you must take is to cease RSS feeding after midnight.

I thought RSS stood for Really Simple Syndication.

That is a common misconception. There actually is no abbreviation for Really Simple Syndication.
