Hail Fellow Well Met

hailstone.jpg

Check out the hailstone that SFist Jim captured on film at around 9:07 p.m. in the Haight! In his poetic phrasing, "bigger than a bb, smaller than a lemon drop." This was all due to a small storm cell above the northern half of the city, and was accompanied by heavy rain and lightning.

Where were you when the ice started raining down? We were just leaving a bar downtown, and then we got totally soaked on our frantic dash to the BART. (This was not the day not to bring an umbrella with us. Man, we have got to get ourselves a bright green one, just like Britney Spears.)

Video of the hailstorm here if you missed it. The SFGate's weather forecast says there might be hail tomorrow too, along with a slight chance of thunderstorms.

Next up, after we post this, a cup of hot chocolate -- our feet are still freezing.

Here's a picture I took: www.flickr.com/photos/55613905@N00/404281682/

All the hail in the picture came down in about 2 minutes. I'd hate to have been caught outside! Most sane drivers pulled over when the hail came down, but I watched a taxi try to drive up the street and it's tires were spinning much faster then it was moving. I'm just happy it didn't hit anyone!

On Cole and Grove near USF the hail was a lot bigger than a bb when it came down--almost small ice cubes I would say. But it all melted very quickly.

We were on Telegraph Hill, watching from the windows as our nutty neighbors ran out and started dancing around in it. WTF? It was COLD!!!
