We Have a Best MUNI Line

bestmunifinale.jpgAnd it's the (drum roll please)....BART.

BART?

Yep, BART won as the Best MUNI line with almost 1/3rd of the vote. In terms of actual MUNI lines, the winner is the F Line, with 17%. In third came the 1 California. Guess there's not that much hate out there for the 1.

It appears too that over the past few days, BART solidified their lead, making us wonder just what happened out there over the past few days to make people want to vote more for BART than an actual MUNI line.

Anyways, that's it for MUNI polls, unless we decide to do some sort of NCAA Tournament "Worst MUNI Line" thing but we think we've probably milked this whole thing enough. In fact, we've probably milked this whole poll thing as the only other polls we can think of running right now are "Best BART Line" or a "What Color Tie Should Gavin Wear?" poll Hmmm...or maybe a "Best Rehab Buddy for Gavin Poll" featuring Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, Mel Gibson, and Kate Moss.

duh. BART is practically a Muni line since you can get through the fare gates in the city with a FastPass. in addition, what other transit mode can swift you to/from downtown from/to the Mission and beyond in 10-15 minutes?

Well, despite the lack of stops BART actually works and it gets you there quickly. What's not to love?

Well, the stops is really the big problem. Unless you're commuting or going between the Mission and Market then there's not much covered by BART. Since the trains don't have to stop every single block (because invariably someone wants on or off at every single one) they don't bunch up or take you almost two hours to get across town. Since it's a subway, unlike Muni's apathetic attempts with the Metro lines, it doesn't have problems with traffic.

BART and it's obvious popularity shows us that what SF really needs for transit is a reasonable subway line that doesn't merely ape BART and add a few extra stops before getting bogged down on surface streets and turning into little more than just another bus. Unfortunately, as we've seen with Metro and the propose central subway they don't have any clue how to manage it.

Still, buses need to be moved back into usage mainly for short-run local transit with more fixed-stop subway lines handling cross-town transit.

Belgand, let me be first to commend you on your excellent comments.

Plus, BART doesn't make that hideous screeching sound when the doors are open too long. Why on earth must our Muni underground make such a nails-on-blackboard sound?
