SFist Blotter

ZodiacPoster.jpgA 21-year-old trainjumping transient from Portland fell out of a Union Pacific train that she and her rottweiler were hitching a ride on. The train was in Benicia and moving at about 50 mph at the time she and the dog fell out -- but she died not from any injury from the fall but rather, from drowning in the shallow puddle in which she landed. The dog was injured too, but they have no word on its condition beyond that. Apparently 2-3 people die each day on Union Pacific property from trying to jump on or off a moving train, or from trespassing on the tracks.

The SFPD is not very pleased about all the attention they're going to be getting once that Zodiac movie featuring adorable Jake Gyllenhaal opens, since they've never been able to catch the serial killer in question. That doesn't really seem like news around here, though, does it? Movie opens March 2.

And in lighter news, it's time for kooky Stanford tree mascot tryouts again! Wednesday's wackiness featured the current tree mascot shooting two candidates with paintballs as they ran across the lawn flapping their arms, in a stunt inspired by the video game Duck Hunt. One candidate (in a Speedo) was shot 5 times, with at least one shot drawing blood.
