National Condom Week! (How Did We Miss This?)

condom.jpgWe were browsing the Planned Parenthood Golden Gate website for information about the infamous HPV vaccine. (Yes, we’re too old to even get it. Yes, we’re confused about the whole vaccine and why it’s so expensive. And yes, we’re kind of sad that efforts to offer a vaccine in schools will most likely not happen).

But luckily… we forgot all of our problems, when we found out that today is the last day of National Condom Week! February 14- 21!

Hurry to the PPGG website to take the condom quiz. (We did poorly). You too can find out fun facts about condoms, including just how much liquid they can hold and which country mandates sex ed before issuing a marriage license. (We know the answers, but we’re not telling).

We here in the Bay Area have a special reason to embrace National Condom Week since it was started by UC Berkeley students back in 1978. Looks like the same university that brought you the Free Speech Movement also brought you ‘Don’t Be Silly, Protect Your Willy.’

According to what may or may not be the ‘official’ National Condom Week website, this year NCW is branching out from safe sex campaigns to credit card debt. The website is offering ‘credit card condoms’ or thin layers of plastic to slip over your credit card and protect you from unwanted spending. (Yeah, we don’t really get it either.)

Incidentally, if you’re sad about missing a full week of NCW festivities, you can head over to the UK where the Brits will be celebrating later this year. Condoms are loved on both sides of the Atlantic!
