Best MUNI Line Poll

CableCar5X7.jpgHere t'is, just in time for the four day work week, the Official Best MUNI Line poll. We have the F Market Line as the favorite because, well, who doesn't love that line? We love riding them all the time despite the fact they're always crowded. Also tapped as favorites are the Cable Cars. Would we be San Francisco without them?. Then there's the Fightin' 1 California which seems to be a favorite of a lot of people. We've always found the 1 to be one of the better lines, mainly because they seem to roll by every minute. The dark horse, however, just might be the 41 if only because it's the, well, most scenic of routes.

Vote early, vote often and the winner will be announced on Friday. PS- the Ask a MUNI Driver feature will appear tomorrow. We're too hungover to post it today.

I have to say I'm surprised to see the 1-California on a "best of" list. Sure they're trying out new ways to speed up MUNI on that line, but taking it from Embarcadero up the hill is the most motion-sickness inducing rides one can take. And it's usually packed even BEFORE you get to Chinatown, where they get so full they have to skip stops. And as for BART, well, I guess you could call it a MUNI line even if it's not because you can use a fast pass to go from downtown to the Mission...

Speaking of Muni, check out this front page article from tomorrow's issue of the Chronicle...

According to statistics compiled by Muni, the worst rail line is the J-Church, on time 61.9% of the time! The worst bus line? The 29-Sunset, which is on time 59% of the time. For those of you wondering, 'tell me something I didn't know,' Muni plans to remedy the problem by:

1. hiring more drivers, mechanics and inspectors 2. expanding proof of payment so those of us with passes and transfers can board from the back of the bus (finally!) 3. beefing up meter maid patrols to crack down on those annoying people that double park and slow down the buses.

Not one word on cracking down on chronic absenteeism ... sigh.

"Muni misses on-time goal: Just 70 percent of buses, streetcars meet schedule." The San Francisco Chronicle. Feb. 20, 2007. Pg. A-1

The 1 is only a good line during non-rush hour periods!

I'm surprised about the high-score for the F line. Didn't one just crash when its brakes failed about a week or 2 ago on the Embarcadero (near Pier 35 or so)?

I remember hearing about it and seeing the helicopter outside my work, but I can't find any articles at all.

BART! Hear, hear!

All of them are WAY overpriced- Waiting for 3 buses to pass you by during rush hour is not fun! (1 Calif)

The 41 is always WAY too crowded, in my opinion.
