Day Around the Bay

-It looks like it's a bad time to try and fly east.
-Taxi Commission hires a private dick.
-Lawyers for four former Black Liberation Army try to get the case thrown out for it being to long since the actual crime.
-Plan to track bad cops is attacked by pretty much everyone.
-In a protest against the ban on gay marriage, dozens of couples tried to register to get married on Valentine's Day.
-Pregnant woman in San Pablo is shot and killed.
-Ralph Nader to stage a protest against Nancy Pelosi to try and get her to end the war. Of course, if he wouldn't have run in 2000, we wouldn't be in this mess so you could say that he was actually pretty successful in ensuring he'd still have a job and can you tell we’re still bitter?
-Pot club in Tracy busted.
-Bingo hall in the Mission held up.

Wait, remind me again of how Ralph's running in 2000 got us in this mess? Is it because if he did not run, Al Gore would have won, and Al Gore would not have made the same mistakes Junior made after 9/11? Whether or not Gore would have made the same moves Bush did following 9/11 is up for debate, and whether or not 9/11 would have happened on Gore's watch is also up for debate (it probably would have happened regardless).
But to say that Ralph cost Gore the 2000 election is kinda iffy. Could Ralph have been A cause? Maybe. Was Ralph's running more significant in Al's defeat than Al not carrying Tennessee, his home state, the state that elected him Senator? No way. If Al carries Tennessee, Florida doesn't matter. What about Al not carrying Arkansas, Billy's home state? What about the Supreme Court stepping in on Florida's business?
Yes, I'm one of those San Francisco liberals, but no, I'm not especially enamoured by Ralph. But he's been fucked with pretty hard the past few years, and most of it is unfair. I have a sneaking suspicion that placing the blame on Ralph is a way for both lefties and righties to prevent any 3rd parties from running, to prevent any diversity in the politcal dialogue. Say...SFist isn't a fascist blog now is it?
I have to say, I really didn't know people were still hanging on to that ol' Nader crap. As if giving people more choice is the worst thing one can do to strengthen a democracy. People will say anything to give the Dems a break, the fact remains: they need to get better at winning elections. Just because I'm left of George W. doesn't mean I have to vote for a Democrat who doesn't stand for what I believe in. Remember who Gore chose as a vice president. Hint: he's not a Democrat.
John,
Your logic regarding the Nader issue is so fucking tired and retarded. Get over it.

Hey, if Bush had never run in 2000, we wouldn't be in this mess. Nader has a right to run, and people have a right to vote for the candidate they like. Go nag at the people (especially Democrats) who voted for Bush, if the most constructive thing you can do SIX YEARS on is complain about democracy.
