When The Lights Go Down In The City

Tonight we're wishing a great big Happy 4th Birthday to DJ Ted and his baby BAGeL Radio. The party is at Bottom of the Hill with performances by Birdmonster, Division Day and Two Seconds, and yes there will be cupcakes! The show is 18+ and only $10, but for those of you who aren't in the city tonight you can still listen in to the party performances thanks to the fine folks at Lala.com. Speaking of tuning in, this SFist is debuting her weekly radio show on BAGeL this afternoon at 4pm Pacific time. Hear yours truly playing indie singer-songwriters, be they solo artists or band leaders, plus their classic influences. Today's show includes Jose Gonzalez, Jesse Sykes, PJ Harvey, a special sound-a-like between Spoon and Edwyn Collins and more.

You can tune in to BAGeL Radio anytime in iTunes -- click on the radio tab and look under "Alt/Modern Rock" for "BAGeL Radio" -- or listen at the website. DJ Ted's epic live broadcast on Fridays, appropriately dubbed "480 Minutes", has turned us on to many great bands and songs. Also check out Beedub's Spacerock Contiuum on Tuesdays at 10am and 10pm, presented by Cory, the head of two amazing indie labels: Absolutley Kosher and now Misra Records. (While you're at it, thank him for that Chris Garneau record.) Happy Birthday Ted and BAGeL!

Also tonight one of our favorite rock photographers around town, Julie Schuchard, is stepping out as a record label mogul with the launch of Tricycle Records. Celebrate at Rickshaw Stop with a label showcase and EP release for The Union Trade, plus performances by Tricycle artists If Nobody Knew and Ireland's own The Hooks. Also tonight over at Popscene, line up for your chance to see stellastarr* at 330 Ritch because they're only selling tickets at the door.

On Friday, help raise some funds for the excellent Mission Creek Music Festival by buying a ticket to see The Herms, Hey Willpower, Captain Ahab and Lemonade with DJ Kid 606 at 12 Galaxies. It's a sliding scale from $5 (before 9pm) to $20, but feel free to be extra generous. At Rickshaw Stop, Mr Roboto presents Monsters Are Waiting, Immigrant and DJ sets by stellastarr* and Swayzee. Mirah's sold out Bottom of the Hill with Little Brazil and The Affair.

On Saturday, it's dreamtime with Sparklehorse and Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter at the Fillmore. Jesse Sykes' latest, like, love, lust & the open halls of the soul, was released this past Tuesday; stream the entire album at the Barsuk website. Also on Saturday, The Extra Action Marching Band whoops it up at 12 Galaxies with Tiger Honey Pot and Japonize Elephants. At Rickshaw Stop, the Three Kinds of Stupid mayhem returns with Trackademics. The Hemlock's got Finest Dearest, Cinder Cone and Social Studies.

On Monday night head to 12 Galaxies for a free screening of Cracker & Camper Van Beethoven: The First Annual Camp Out Live DVD. Wednesday is the highly anticipated and/or dreaded Valentine's Day. Troll for a date at Club Neon's 3rd Annual Valentine's Day Underwear Dance Party at Rickshaw Stop. That'll speed up the getting-to-know-you process a bit, no?
