Let’s talk about the issues then if so many people can forgive the chief executive officer of talking advantage of a drug dependant employee who happens to be his campaign mangers wife and forget that Alex is his best friend: Muni continues to be pathetic. The streets are clogged with traffic. City departments are run by crony ex-politicians. The mayor in not accessible even to his supporters he is not even capable of returning phone calls. Housing costs for normal working stiffs is out of control. The mayor rejects the will of the voters and is afraid to answer the BOS questions in an open arena. Give me a break this guy is not qualified for the job. His actions or better yet inactions speak volumes.

I found it telling that after a solid 30 minutes of forcedly breathless wide-eyed coverage of the MAYORAL SEX SCANDAL, KRON-4 took a handicam out on the street to interview locals on whether we should choose impeachment or lynching or ritual auto de fé, and not one of them was appropriately aghast, or even bothered enough to care. One of the folks interviewed expressed a desire to hear actually important local issues addressed, and I concur. The high point was KRON playing a clip of Bill O'Reilly, of all people, lecturing San Franciscans on morality. I know ~I~ turn to KRON to hear Falafel Bill, don't you? At that point, the channel was changed to 11, and lo and behold, there was actual news content that day that did not involve Gavin Newsom's genitals and/or hairstyles. More of that would be good, thanks.

Hey, if Willie Brown can father extramarital children while in office, then surely Gavin can survive this. After all, Bill Clinton’s popularity went up after the Lewinsky affair. If someone must resign, it should be Peter Ragone. He’s the worst mouthpiece I’ve ever heard. His Q&A with the press yesterday was embarrassingly amateur, halting, and inarticulate. He can’t answer a simple question for shit. A high school debate team member would do a better job.

BTW, in case anyone is betting on a political career death pool for Mayor (I.e. someone else besides Gavin is to be Mayor) here's your top 3 in order: -Mark Leno -Dennis Herrerra -Jeff Adachi No progressive can win, Matt Gonzalez would tank instantly, and it's too early for Ross to run since he just got elected a few years ago (but at least he can run a town meeting.)

If Gavin steps down, Bevan Dufty could be a formidable choice. He won easily in his district, and has appeal to a wider audience. He won't run if Gavin does though.

I could care less about him hooking up with a 20 year old. They are both adults and I am sure he didn't have to do much convincing. But his best friends wife? Especially for a guy like Gavin, who has his pick of the ladies. No class. Disclaimer: I voted for and campaigned for Gonzalez, but I think Gavin has done an outstanding job so far. Who else has a chance against him? I think somebody like Kamala Harris would have a good chance. Is there any chance she would run? Carole Migden perhaps?

Peskin as mayor. Now that's an idea I could get used to. I don't care who Newsom's boning, but his choices (underage girls, Scientologists, married crack ho's) in women, coupled with his drunken foolishness all over town doesn't exactly speak highly of him. If it was a one-off thing that'd be one thing, but he's making bad taste in women into a habit. Newsom should resign just because he sucks as a mayor, regardless of where he puts his weinie.
