Swells By The Numbers

More balletomania! We've read so much coverage of the 74th SF ballet opening night gala, we're starting to expect to see ourselves in these pictures!

Number of people pictured in this week's Swells society columns: 48.

Number of people pictured whom we recognize: 4 (Dededededededededede, the Shultzes, and Michela Alioto-Pier).

Minority count: 4 (approx. 10%).

Getty v. Traina: Again, a pity Gavin Newsom is in Davos -- Dede Wilsey again crushes the competition in favor of the Trainas, at 0-1.

Temperature at which the Spanish fans carried by a guest are useful: 30 degree weather, "and hot flashes too!"

Number of earrings missing: 1, from the lobe of Carole Shorenstein Hays. Dermatologist Dr. Seth Matarasso found it on the sidewalk and returned it to her, saying, "You'd have to be blind to miss it. It probably could support a small nation."

Length of Karen Caldwell's Lily Samii gown's net train, adorned with fabric flowers: 7 feet.

Percentage of SFGate voters who selected Angelique Griepp's Oscar de la Renta dress as their favorite: 45%.

Number of entrees, all in the Spanish theme, prepared by caterer Paula LeDuc: 3 -- a crab, lobster, and caviar salad; Sancho Panza short ribs; and a Don Quixote dessert of a chocolate praline mousse windmill, featuring spun sugar windmill blades that actually spun.

Stanlee Gatti count: 0.

Number of dancers loved by the audience: All of them!
