SFist Tonight
We've been doing far too much reading about relevance and contemporary classical music as of late, so we're looking forward to the opportunity to hear it in a nice room with other people. The SF Tape Music Festival going on all weekend at ODC Theater (3153 17th St at Shotwell) features three distinct programs of audio art over a pristine 16-speaker surround sound system. We like the mix of legends (Brian Eno, with a world premiere, Gyorgy Ligeti and James Tenney, both recently deceased) and locals (Cliff Caruthers, George Cremaschi, Mary Clare Brzytwa, and more). (8pm)
And some theater - new local theater companyTheatre Release presents Chekhov^2: Four Early Farces - Chekhov called them vaudevilles - The Bear, The Proposal, Swan Song, and A Reluctant Tragic Hero at New Langton Arts (1246 Folsom between 8th and 9th). Artistic Director, Tom Bentley is known for reviving established scripts with the urgency of contemporary concerns. (8pm)
And just as we're winding down from SF Sketchfest, SF Indie Fest kicks off to ward off any fest withdrawal. The SF Independent Film Festival kicks off with a benefit launch party on Saturday at the hipster hot-spot, Rickshaw Stop (155 Fell at Van Ness) with bands, Triple Cobra (another animal reference!), Tartufi, and the Herms, plus previews and short films and everyone's favorite - cheap beer. It's 18 and up, but the cheap beer will not be provided to those under 21, even if they show up wearing a Santa hat and are 20 deep. (8pm - 2am)
