We Read The Weeklies

ebx125.jpgLast week's winner, the East Bay Express: Well, this is interesting! Bottom Feeder Will Harper is leaving the EBX to become the executive editor of the SF Weekly. We're sorry to see Harper leave, but we're excited to see what he does at the sister SF publication! Plus, this collection of Bottom Feeder's greatest hits is pretty exciting. We may not be making as much money off stem cells as everyone says we will -- and there's an online-only article about the clash at Dellums inauguration. Cover article: Emeryville hotel fires illegal immigrant workers to avoid a minimum wage law. People are walking out of the Berkeley Rep's production of a play about a child murderer. Indian pizza in Fremont, and the Wineau calls out some errors made. The Bluegrass Festival. And Ron Dellums's horoscope: Define your short-term goals. (Horoscope online is different from the one in the paper. Dellums's horoscope in the hard copy is "be your usual loquacious self.")

The SF Weekly: They're upping the ante -- last week, it was nipples on the table of contents and this week, there's nipples on the cover! Artily shot, but still, we felt obliged to cover up the picture as we were reading the paper on the BART. Next week, we're hoping it's a cover article about lactation. Get on that, Will Harper! Matt Smith on the Burning Man trademark lawsuit. Newsom's wi-fi plan has some problems; Meth Coffee (see SFist Jeremy's take on it here), and one of the anarchists in Josh Wolf's video got the federal charges dropped against him. Cover article: Erotic performer and contortionist Jade-Blue Eclipse (thus the nipples on the cover) is fleeing Homeland Security over immigration problems. It's a totally fascinating piece!! (and more pictures and line drawings of nipples as well.) Meredith goes to the Upper Haight. SFist Ced agrees the article seems fine. Deerhoof and the Wooden Shjips, global dub and blogging about ghost-riding the whip. Put your stunna shades on!

After the jump: The Guardian, the Metro, the Weekly of the Week, and your year-to-date count.

The Guardian: Tim Redmond frets about global warming. Newsom's wi-fi program has problems. GavinWatch wins blog of the week! Bonfires are saved on Ocean Beach. The army captain who's refusing to go to Iraq because it's an illegal war. The Presidio Trust won't tell us what it's doing with its money. Annalee Newitz on Phillip Pullman's answer to the Chronicles of Narnia. Local stylist Joe Hamer fixes up Lance Bass's hair. The Sonic Reducer on the indie biodiesel bus, and another boy-girl folkie group (called the Finches. Of course they're called the Finches!). Paul Reidinger reviews Out The Door in the Westfield Mall before Meredith does! We totally should have made a bet with SFist Ced about this. Also: kale, a noir movie fest, and a drink called the JonBenet Ramsey.

And the Metro: Gary Singh on 12th century poetry -- alive in San Jose. Keep San Jose history alive! The Fly still loves Chuck Reed, and San Jose had like the opposite of the Gavin Newsom Fake Question Time -- citizens asked the police chief questions but he wasn't allowed to respond. Cover article: Dianne Feinstein sends business to her husband's firm. Jerry Rice will be at Kepler's this Friday. Similarly to the Guardian, you've got Deerhoof and the noir film fest discussed here too. The local horror film scene. And the food review (of a Mediterranean/North African place) describes Campbell as "increasingly hip"

Weekly of the Week: Okay, maybe we were a little embarrassed by the nipples, but we got really into the SF Weekly article about Jade-Blue Eclipse's career and her fugitive status. We do sincerely hope everything works out okay for her, whatever happens. And -- we're excited to see what Will Harper does to the place starting next week! So it's the SF Weekly.

YTD count: The fourth week of the year and everyone's won one week! We swear we didn't set it up this way.
