SFist Tonight Geeks Out

Geekcoversmall.jpg
Friends of SFist, Charlie Anders (Writers with Drinks) and Annalee Newitz (whose Techsploitation column we read each week with the Weeklies) have a new anthology out called She's Such a Geek. Tonight, contributors will be reading at City Lights (261 Columbus Ave. at Broadway). The book is a collection of first-person stories by women working in tech, science, game design, and other male-dominated "geeky" fields like tech law and even comic book writing. And of course the book has its own blog! (7pm)

Even geekier, is an R&D games night at Oakland's It's Your Move Games, (4920 Telegraph Ave near 51st St., fairly close to MacArthur BART) where you can try out new games and proffer opinions at a gathering of game designers and game players. The games include a mix of strategy, word, board, card, and social interaction games developed by local game designers, and if you have a game you designed, you are welcome to bring it along. Please call Sandi to RSVP if you plan to attend at (510) 339-1625. (7 - 9:30 pm)

And for film geeks (of which we admittedly are one), film critic and author, David Thomson, introduces the classic shot-in-SF Hitchcock classic, Vertigo at the PFA Theater in Berkeley (2575 Bancroft Way between College and Telegraph). Brought to you by the word "emasculation" and the color green and starring Jimmy Stewart looking up and looking down for Kim Novak. (7:30 pm)
