Three points:

1. Menupages has 4347 menus to Menutopia's 2011. I'm not a math expert, but that's more than twice the amount.

2. I clicked on all eight (8!) of Menutopia's "Most Clicked Restaurants" for Downtown SF (SNOB, La Parrilla, Aladdin, etc), and NONE OF THEM even had a menu! I think this is false advertising: a purported menu site that doesn't have menus! Might as well use Citysearch or Yelp. At least Menupages has menus for every restaurant they put on their site.

3. Menupages and Yelp seem to be more up-to-date. Just looking at Menutopia's front page, Winterland has been closed for months. And it wasn't exactly a low-profile closing.

Wow, thanks for the great writeup, Jon! In the spirit of David Cross, I'm writing on behalf of Menutopia.

At Menutopia, it's our goal to maintain the most current restaurant info and menus. We actually rely on our users to let us know when something needs fixing, so if you ever see anything that's missing or needs updating, we're all ears!

We also make sure all of our content is optimized for our users (not for advertisers), so you're never more than 2 clicks from a menu. Just try the smart search once and tell me you can go back to other dumb searches.

Now let's see some restaurant reviews, San Francisco!

Menutopia is much easier on the eyes than Menupages, that's for sure. I'm also really digging the search...makes it so easy to get right to the restaurant you want.

To find other restaurants in the city you can visit sanfrancisco.menupages.com and search by type of cuisine or region of the city. They also list full menus and reviews. It's pretty much fantastic.

We're actually taking suggestions from citizens of Our City for what the replacement sound should be. Feel free to weigh in with your suggestions.

Me, I kinda think of that sound as the "idiot detector" usually making noise because Some Idiot is trying to get on when the doors are almost shut.
