Progressive On Progressive Violence
So last week, we got an email from a friend of ours, asking us to show up to the State Building on a Sunday afternoon to vote for him for some obscure delegate position with the state Democratic party. Sure, we thought. Always good to vote for a friend!
So how entertaining for us to find out we were in fact part of a huge juggernaut of people supporting people who support Mark Leno in a proxy fight between him and Carole Migden! (If huge can be defined as "about 200 people," that is.)
As you may recall, Leno and Migden are supposedly in a knock-down drag-out fight over who gets to be the State Senator for our area -- and held this latest dance-off over their designated slate of delegates to the state Democratic party. (Wouldn't that be awesome if we actually did resolve all political disputes with danceoffs?) Whoever's friends got the most votes would be deemed the winner of this round!
Since both Migden and Leno are progressive-supported, the lefties in town are all splitting about this in different ways -- who do they support if it's not "the person running against the moderate"? The guy who's threatening the incumbent's seat, or the lady who's been acting a little erratically in the state building? Is this all a fight over Harry Britt's legacy? Will supporting one make the other one run for San Francisco mayor? And most importantly -- What are all the cool kids doing?
Disappointingly, in between the time we got the email invitation to come vote and the time of the actual delegate election, Carole Migden threw in the towel and most of her slate ended up withdrawing -- so when we got there, it was all Leno, there was no catfight, and his people won in a stompdown.
In the wake of all this, Chris Daly has now come out swinging for Migden, with an article in Beyond Chron about how he's supporting Migden because Leno's hired Rob Black's political consulting firm -- and Sarah Low Daly ran as a Migden delegate for last week's proxy fight (but lost). We're looking forward to seeing how this one all plays out!
A picture of Mark Leno we took at last week's throwdown.

Pro or a Con. Who really gives a f**k about either one of these sell outs. Seems to me that once they go to state they all take lobby monies and don't really do a just for our city.
