Hot Stuff: Food Section Round Up

We gobble the various food sections up each Wednesday. These are our favorite tidbits from this week's offerings. We know, we know, we are a day late. But hey, we just got back from New Zealand.

San Francisco Chronicle Gossipy side: We hear Bill Addison has hit the road for Dallas. What?! No more burrito analysis and restaurant reviews from him?

The Tower of Bauer says the House of Prime Rib needs to work on its service. Fried chicken is trendy. Savory and sweet meet at the Mission District's Mission Pie, at 25th and Mission. This location is dangerously close to where we live. We like helping the community, and because it is staffed by Mission High students, we will partake early and often to help keep it in business.

Mmmmmm-hmm, specialty bacon. Most intriguing recipe award goes to French toast souffle, with a combo of butter, croissants, bacon, vanilla and maple syrup.

New York Times Silkie chickens, pictured above, are a big hit with San Francisco Asian cooks. To the uninitiated, Silkies look and sound somewhat "scary" and sci-fi, with their black bones and bluish skin. However, there are benefits for braving a Silkie, because they are reported to be lean yet rich in flavor.
