The story about Rex Farrance, the PC World editor shot to death in a home invasion robbery gets more complicated, as his 19-year-old son tells the media that the "drug trade" alluded to by the police was in fact a stash of licensed medicinal marijuana that the son was keeping at the father's house with the father's knowledge. Farrance's wife, who was pistol-whipped in the attack, strongly denies any drug dealing in the house -- and Farrance's stepdaughter said she thinks the family was targeted because her stepfather had guns in the house. Farrance was a fitness buff, and had been profiled in the Chron back in 2001.
The SFPD has released a sketch of the suspect who carjacked the casual commuter the other day. The heavyset suspect had an accent that the victim thought sounded "Slavic," and he was wearing a royal blue jumpsuit. They still haven't located the car, which is a white 1995 Acura Integra with a bike rack on the roof, license plate 3KIT992. Meanwhile, other casual commuters claimed they weren't too worried about their safety in the wake of this incident.
And finally, quite a few car crashes around here! Not just the shootout on Polk Street or the man getting hit by the 22 Fillmore, but also a four car pileup on southbound 101 yesterday morning and a five-car pileup on eastbound 80/101 by Fourth Street last night. Also, there was a shooting on I-80 by Richmond last night which is tying up traffic, and there was a high speed chase that culminated in a crash on a 580 offramp in Castro Valley.
