SFist Tonight

mb_bb01.jpg
It's another East Bay/West Bay collision! After months of Sampling Oakland, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (701 Mission St. at 3rd) sets its sights on Berkeley's Kala (rhymes with ta-dah) Art Institute for an exhibition entitled, Cultivating Creativity: In Residence at Kala. Vampiric gesture or reflection of an "ongoing commitment to celebrating local arts organizations," no matter, check out the work of current and past Kala-affiliated artists working in printmaking, digital media, photography and book arts. Plus a cash bar, DJ sets and live performances by Sean Smith and Nathaniel Russell. (6-9 pm) Taro Hattori's "Mobile Beaut Brute" pictured.

And another party for a good cause! Electronic Frontier Foundation's Sweet 16 Party at 111 Minna (111 Minna St. at 2nd). The EFF, is a kick-ass public interest IP law organization, you may have heard of them leading the lawsuit against AT&T and the Department of Homeland Security for invading our privacy and mining data, against SONY for its DRM that installed insecure and destructive software on your computer, they are also fighting to make voting machines secure and accountable. Basically on any IP or technology-related issue affecting the public, the EFF is taking action. DJs Ripley and Kid Kameleon will be keeping the dancefloor hopping all night long. (7-10 pm)
