SFist Tonight's Holding Out for a Hero

Bonnie%20Tyler%20-%20Holding%20out%20for%20a%20hero.jpgCommunity Hero: At YBCA (701 Mission @ 3rd) is a screening of the African Film, Sango Malo by Bassek Ba Kobhio, the story of an idealistic new teacher in a rural school whose plans for radical praxis bringing social change to students and villagers is met by strong resistance from the headmaster and the village chief. Co-presented by California Newsreel, the San Francisco Black Film Festival, the Museum of the African Diaspora Present and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. (7:30 pm)

Art Hero: It's a behind-the-scenes documentary about the man made most famous for his testicular commitment since Dr. John R. Brinkley from Kansas, Matthew Barney. Matthew Barney: No Restraint screens at the Roxie (3117 16th St at Valencia) and charts Barney's rise to art-stardom with interviews with Barney, Björk, The New York Times Art Critic Michael Kimmelman and gallerist Barbara Gladstone among many others, plus footage of "the making of" Drawing Restraint: 9 (the whale movie with Björk) and some Cremaster scenes. (7pm)

And a topic near and dear to our hearts, at ArtHouse (1360 Mission between 9th and 10th), California Lawyers for the Arts presents: Life After YouTube: The Benefits and Perils of User-Generated Content, a workshop hosted by Jennifer Burke Sylva and Victoria Libin.
