Only Three More Days Until Fake Question Time!

newsomchicken-2.jpgLike Frank Perdue always said: It takes a tough man to make a tender chicken. The Board of Supervisors cock-a-doodle-doo'ed a 10-1 vote in favor of putting Gavin Newsom and the Question Time he's intent on avoiding on their monthly agenda. So Gavin is now currently scheduled to appear every third Tuesday, and will be marked absent if he doesn't show up within five minutes of his scheduled time.

Gavin buck-buck-buck'ed a testy response to this latest coop challenge, saying only, "Been there, done that. I've talked about it for one month." But not yet answered any questions from supervisors!

And finally -- don't forget! Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the fake Question Time "town hall meeting" on Saturday at 10 a.m., at the Richmond Recreation Center (251 18th Ave, between Clement and Geary)!

While Gavin may be dodging disgruntled supervisors, he's not going to be able to avoid the disgruntled public -- not only is everyone and their animal companion coming to watch the show, but the Living Wage Coalition has announced that it'll be protesting low wage conditions in the city as well. We can't wait!!!!

Get yer chicken mayor gear at the Chicken Mayor store, brought to you by the fun-lovin' agitators at the SFPartyParty.

Ah, the shining light of reasoned debate in the body politic, spotlighting a bunch of clowns in chicken masks. What a laugh riot!

I can't imagine why Newsom would opt out of this kind of meaningful public discourse.

Personally, I hope Newsom comes out in a black top hat and Snidely Whiplash-type mustache, which he could twirl while he cackles menacingly. Somebody could hold up a "Boo!" sign whenever he finishes a sentence. It'll be great! That crime-rate is sure to go down right quick!

"I can't imagine why Newsom would opt out of this kind of meaningful public discourse."

Gavin deserves all the credit for creating this circus. The voters asked for meaningful public discourse between the Mayor and the Supervisors. Prop I was a single, crystal clear sentence:

Shall it be City policy to urge the Mayor to appear in person at one regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Supervisors each month to engage in formal policy discussions with members of the Board?
Gavin is dismissing the will of the voters. How can he (or anyone else) read that sentence and try to spin it any other way?

I thought his comments in the Exmainer interview about Question Time were insulting: "If you show up in the community and have an interactive dialogue with the community and the board, that would be more conducive to fulfilling the will of the voters."

But again, the prop makes it optional. Don't cry foul when the mayor opts out. Pass a new prop that requires the mayor to attend if it's that important to the city.

It also takes two to trapeze in this kinder-circus. The BoS and the mayor have successfully stooped to each others level, repeatedly, until we now have a public meeting where people are showing up in chicken costumes. Jeez. Us. Christ.

Meanwhile MUNI still sucks, the public schools need lots of help, housing isn't affordable, &c. &c.

Sure, the Supes should have made it required, but (in your best Rob Corddry voice) I mean, come on! Saying it's optional is such a cop-out! 56% of the voters said they want this. This isn't impeachment or housing for seniors or some other piece of pie in the sky. Question Time is a simple, practical, feasible thing.
And Gavin called Prop I a "public opinion poll"? That's just insulting. Answer the questions, Mayor Newsom.

Instead of sitting here and voicing it let your sup know that you want it made a mandatory for Q&A time. or start a petition drive.
