Two more murders in San Francisco on early Sunday morning, within 8 blocks and 40 minutes of each other: one at 13th and Folsom and another at 17th and Mission. By our count, that brings the murder total up to 5 for 2007 so far. In other Mission district crime news, there was a stabbing around 10 p.m. at the Burger King at 16th and Mission last night too. Would those proposed cameras at the corner have helped?

bakersdozen.jpgA singing group from Yale known as the Bakers' Dozen on tour in San Francisco over New Year's Eve was jumped after a party and beaten up pretty badly. The party, which was held at the home of a retired SFPD officer, took a bad turn when two party attendees (who are sons of a prominent local pediatrician) took offense at the group's conservative attire and their singing of The Star Spangled Banner, called them derogatory names relating to their sexual orientation, and then said there'd be a fight afterwards. The singing group is upset that the SFPD doesn't appear to be moving very quickly on the case.

And the city of Oakland has vowed to crack down on restaurants who haven't stopped using styrofoam for takeout yet. Disgruntled council member Jean Quan complains that people still use the banned substance for soup.
