Yes, New Year's Eve is considered amateur hour. Which is never really our problem with it. Like Halloween, New Year's Eve is one of those holidays where you feel like a loser if you don't have like at least three or four things to go to. Or if you don't go out. It might be better in the long run to avoid going out but for those few moments when the ball drops and everybody's popping champagne and a whole bunch of people are kissing people they shouldn't necessarily be kissing, staying at home by yourself and watching it on TV ain't that much fun. That's why we like wearing headphones when we're home on this night-- that way you can pretend nothing is going on around you.
So with that in mind, what is there to do tomorrow night? Well, we don't know actually as it's looking like it'll be movie night, but for those of you looking to go out and boogy, here are some places with New Year's Eve listings:
Laughing Squid
The Bay Guardian
SF Weekly
SF Party Party
As for Public Transportation, good luck with that. No, actually, MUNI will pulling a Lionel Richie and going all night long. Free too. SamTrans will be running their SF/Palo Alto line and AC Transit will be running their normal Sunday schedule. As for BART and CalTrains, they'll be running their "All Nighter" service which basically means a bunch of buses.
As for cabs, well, let's just say friends of ours once got into a fist-fight with some other people when they fought over who actually hailed the cab.

Here's one way to get a cab on New Year's Day after the festivities are over:
When you take a cab to the party, give the cabbie one-half of a $100 bill torn in two. Tell the cabbie that the other half is his/hers upon meeting you at a designated time/place.
The cab driver will be there. After all, he/she has probably dealing with Rookie Night ("all night long") and is probably looking forward to a halfway-decent gratuity.
Caveat emptor: this requires someone in your party to remain sober enough to recognize the cab driver. ;)
As for BART and CalTrains, they'll be running their "All Nighter" service which basically means a bunch of buses.
Actually, it means BART will be running all night. (er, well, until 3am, and then I think it reopens at ... 6? not sure).
In fact, SFist gave away a bunch of free BART Flash passes last week (one of which i won! so yay, and thanks!).
