Fremont might be getting the A's, but they're getting no love from filmmakers. That's because the makers of the movie version of "The Kite Runner" has decided to film the scenes that take place in Fremont not in Fremont but in Berkeley. Filmmakers say it costs too much to film in Fremont and so they often substitute Berkeley whenever they shoot scenes that take place in Fremont.
No, we're just joking.
It's not known why they're not filming in Fremont as they appear to be filming almost everywhere in the East Bay but Fremont. Scenes so far have been shot in Oakland and Alameda and Hayward. Needless to say, people in Fremont aren't happy.
For the five of you still out there who haven't read "The Kite Runner" (and you should too-- it's a fantastic book), the main character of the novel emigrates from Afghanistan to the East Bay and becomes a novelist living in Fremont. The movie is being made by Dreamworks picture and has no release date as of yet. There's not even a poster or a trailer done yet. Filming, however, should be wrapped up at the end of this year. Which would make it the end of this week.
Maybe they should just get Lucas to super-impose bits and pieces of Fremont into the movie to make it more realistic. Like add all those car dealerships and highways and strip-malls.

According to a member of the locations dept., the director, DP, & production designer didn't find Fremont "picturesque"... Hmm. So they shot in Newark & Hayward instead?
I must be the one person who couldn't get through Kite Runner. In fact, I just stopped reading it. The writing was horrible! For someone who is supposed to be a novelist (the narrator), he sure can't seem to get a grip on present and past tense. It drove me crazy and had to stop.
... we were in Xinjiang province (western China) and over the Karakoram Highway in the Hunza Valley in N Pakistan a couple months back. THE KITE RUNNER was filming scenes there rather than film in Afghanistan, so Fremont shouldn't get its nose too out of joint.

I agree-- the KR was a horrbile read. Possibly the most over-rated book i have *ever* read. I mean, it was worse than most Grisham novels.
I really wanted to like this book, but the simplistic plot and characters were just too much. My stomach couldn't take anymore fantastical coincidences after the first 5.
"Snow" is a much better novel. Hopefully they won't try to make a movie out of it... it really wouldn't work.
