When The Lights Go Down In The City
What? This isn't Thursday? OK, all this holiday brouhaha has made us a day late from our usual posting schedule but we just know you'll forgive us. To make it up to you, we want to share a brand new video from Trainwreck Riders. According to our buddy Nat, last week the band hit the streets with a super 8 camera and a bag full of costumes that they dug up from their basements. They started the day at 'Drink Liquor' (where they used to buy alcohol at when they were in high school - uh, allegedly), picked up some 40 oz's of Olde English as inspiration, and shot a video at some of the stomping grounds that Pete sings about in the song.
Please enjoy Trainwreck Riders' "Christmas Time Blues":
We've also been meaning to tell you that badges for 2007's Noise Pop Film & Music Festival are on sale now. They've just begun announcing performers - like Sebadoh, The Donnas, and Midlake - but lots more are still TBA. You're guaranteed to get your money's worth since this is the 15th anniversary of the best indie rock fest in the country.
The city's concert schedule is slowing way down, but you're probably too busy eating cookies or getting stuck at the Denver airport to care. For those who are staying in town:
Tonight Honeycut perform at Annie's Social Club. The Mother Hips play the first of two nights at Great American with The Court and Spark opening tonight and Etienne de Rocher tomorrow night. On Saturday Jeremy Enigk (of Sunny Day Real Estate and The Fire Theft) headlines Slim's. There's a special benefit party for The Coup at Shattuck Downlow in Berkeley. The Bay Area-based hip hop group set off on tour only to be halted by a tragic accident in which the tour bus tipped over and caught on fire. Thankfully everyone survived, but they lost everything in the crash (instruments, clothes, computers, recording equipment, etc.) Donations can be made at the event or through PayPal here. Come on, 'tis the season to help out!
More show picks, including some choices for New Year's Eve, after the jump.
Next Friday, the 29th, Two Gallants play the first of two nights at Bimbo's with Vetiver. My Morning Jacket perform with Rogue Wave at the Fillmore and Van Morrison rocks an early 6:45pm set at the Grand at the Regency Center. On Saturday 12/30, Two Gallants play a seated, acoustic set at Bimbo's, which we think is kind of broken down and fancy at the same time. Elvis Perkins opens for My Morning Jacket at the Fillmore and Gnarls Barkley get crazy with The Flaming Lips at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.
Here are some of your choices for New Year's Eve:
Bottom of the Hill's throwing a very reasonably priced party for $19.99, info-mercial style, with Birdmonster, Boyskout and The Blacks. $80 will get you all you can drink at the Independent with Lyrics Born, Zion I and Crown City Rockers. Mezzanine's also got a pricey $50-80 ticket to see Shiny Toy Guns, Scissors for Lefty and Blonde Redhead. Head to 12 Galaxies for A Fucking Champs New Year's Eve with, who else, The Fucking Champs and Drunk Horse for only $15. The Great American's charging $40 for The Lovemakers, Rock Kills Kid and Honeycut. If you just want to dance (and not break the bank) $30 gets you into the Rickshaw Stop with Dengue Fever and Gomorran Social Club.
Have a wonderful holiday, everyone! We'll be back next week with our Top 10 albums of 2006. It's the only time all year we get to write in first person - we know, it's exciting isn't it?
