We Are So Doing This
From the Chron's Peter Hartlaub, we get word that the Castro Theater is going to be showing all three movies of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Yep, that's Fellowship of the Rings, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King back-to-back-to-back. And yes, that's a lot of movie watching but if you were going to watch like eight hours of movies, you couldn't do wrong there. Name another movie trilogy that's even as half good as these three, come on we dare you. The Godfather Trilogy? Godfather III. Star Wars IV-VI? Ewoks. American Pie I-III? Not even close-- hell, Tara Reid wasn't even in the last two.
See, the way we see it is it'll be cold, the stores will be mayhem, we've already seen "A Christmas Story" over twenty times, and we have no life. What could be better than 559 minutes of Middle Earth-goodness?
Show starts at 1:30. Tickets are $10

I did the Metreon trilogy when RotK came out. It was Fellowship (Extended), Two Towers (Extended), and RotK (release). Movie time, by the way, is 15 hours for that version.
The movies really come together when watched that way, and one loses the ability to think of them as movies so much as "one long movie with intermissions." Tons of fun.
NERDS!
(I mean that in a positive way. Heck, I'd be there for the marathon if I could. I just re-read The Silmarillion this year.)
They're going to be showing the original releases of the three movies (the three hour ones, not extended). I dont think there was ever a print for the ROTK Extended Edition anyhoo.
Tara Reid was in American Pie 2. Care to re-think this one?
Godfather tri was better, dude. Just because its core fanbase doesn't involve smug white guys into Monty Python, the Simpsons, and the X-Files doesn't mean...
Damn. Tara Reid was in American Pie II but wasn't she, like half the cast in like one scene? Or was that Mena Suvari who was only in one scene. And why do I even know any of this?
Godfather III featured former SF Mayor Willie Brown - presumably playing himself (e.g. gladhanding and soliciting money from rich people with questionable ethics). Even though it also featured the sub-par acting skills of Sofia Coppola, the Godfather films are far superior as a whole to a trilogy of movies where the best performance was by a CGI character.
Other runners-up (solely on the pop front):
Terminator
Hellraiser
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly (and sequels)
