We gobble the various food sections up each Wednesday. These are our favorite tidbits from today's offerings:
SF Chronicle Traditional and Meatless "100-mile" Feasts, with most of the ingredients from within 100 miles of SF. Georgeanne Brennan and Ann M. Evans envision "long, leisurely, abundant" meals that are "festive and celebratory of the season." We found Meyer lemon curd tarts with candied violet and Brussels sprouts chiffonade with carmelized onions to be the most innovative items. Really, all of it sounds appetizing.
Our holiday plans are set in stone, but we are hoping to try and "keep everyone well-fed with tamale medicine" for a tamalada (tamale making) party soon. It's a modern take on an old tradition, with updates for those making tamales solo or without scores of familial helpers. We've never thought of kishu tangerines as "like baby's toes" but want to set out and try more tangerines, stat. Carol Ness offers a full report on the best varieties.
Contra Costa ( CoCo ) Times We're willing to sing for this supper: the holiday kitchen can go beyond tamales (but there's more info on them, too), while including other Latin American dishes like empanadas, Aji Peruvian hot sauce, flavorful turkey, and poached pears. The Produce Pro is 'shrooming, hehehe. Cheese, please: Comte gratin and more.
New York Times We are jaded and never really believed that talk of kids enjoying fruits and nuts in their stockings, rather than real toys or other loot. But the New York Times maybe disagrees. One of their stocking stuffer ideas is organic clementines from Olsen Organic Farms in Lindsay, California. Other West Coast mentions this week: getting' fizzy with it at Schramsberg Vineyard's "world-class" sparkling wine, in Calistoga.

I love the posting. My only suggestion is to add the SJ Mercury News too. It isn't fantastic, but there seems no reason not to.
Great point. They have been on my radar. I will try and include them in future round ups. Carolyn Jung is a great Editor, and you are correct that they should be included.
