He's Declared Thumb War

Chronicle book review editor (and proud member of the SFist Gentlemen's Auxiliary) Oscar Villalon is the reigning three-time thumb-wrestling champ at 826 Valencia. In his honor, the fey letterpressers who bring you McSweeney's publications have released his "The Way Of The Thumb," a slim 16-page how-to manual which demonstrates yet another reason why opposable digits separate us from the animals.

We're pleased to see that such a triumph does not go unnoticed at a man's day job either -- and thus, Villalon's overlords at the San Francisco Chronicle have run not only a summary of his tips and tricks, but a video clip of Oscar's signature moves, his tips on better play, and his digital domination over his unsuspecting cubemate Ragnar Carlson. It's well worth watching (3:17).

So you've watched the clip and now you're ready to learn from the master? Well, we've managed to scare up some extra copies of The Way Of The Thumb, which we're giving away to two lucky readers who enter the contest below! Happy thumb-pinning! (and thanks, SFist Mary, for making it happen!)

Contest is now closed.

Oh, man -- the problem with being the best gunfighter in the west is that everyone wants to take you down, and will travel far and wide to do so!
