The new bishop of the Northern California Episcopal Diocese, Rev. Marc Andrus, was arrested at the federal building yesterday afternoon after leading a group of 200 protestors from Grace Cathedral to participate in a die-in against the Iraq war. Rev. Andrus, who was carrying a shepherd's staff, celebrated communion outside the building before lying down in front of the door of the building and getting himself arrested.
The murder trial for 3-year-old Cha Cha (Chazarus Hill Jr.) in Oakland continues. Chazarus Hill Sr., Cha Cha's father and the defendant in the case, would beat Cha Cha for missing flash cards with the letters of the alphabet and numbers on them, and the boy's last words were, "it's okay, Daddy, I'm not mad at you" before he fell unconscious. Cha Cha's stepmother testified that neither of them thought to call 911 until it was too late.
And HP's agreed to pay $14.5 million to settle the claims brought against them by the state attorney general for illegally taping all those phone calls in their board brouhaha. The criminal charges against former board chair Patricia Dunn and four other people are still pending.
Picture of Rev. Marc Andrus at the federal building die-in by our favorite Civic Center correspondent, SFMike. Thanks for passing the picture along, Mike!

I just put up an account of the bishop being arrested on "Civic Center." Though I'm not religious, it was an extraordinarily moving event. We're lucky to have the new Bishop Rev. Marc Hadley Andrus in town.
