Update: They're waiting on confirmation of status. Rescuers are saying they saw a flash in a wooded area. Others are saying that they've heard news reports that he wasn't face down. All the news is kind of crazy right now; we're going to wait until we get something official before posting anything else.
They've found him. Searchers spotted a person who appears to be lying face down. No word on his condition yet.

Here's the latest from this morning's press conference. There's 25-30 people searching at the bottom of the canyon, and once the fog lifts, they'll send out the choppers. They couldn't search for hot spots last night because of the fog. Kati Kim and the daughters are doing well and staying with her family.
The officer who was injured yesterday went over the edge of the road on an icy patch in his ATV and fell about 100 feet. He was helicoptered out and suffered a shoulder injury. Big ups to all the rescuers for all their hard work!
Next press conference: 4:15 p.m.

They've found a number of items on the trail that makes it look like James is marking his path, including a girl's skirt, a sock, and pieces of a map. They're now also dropping off care packages in the area where they think he might be, which include clothing, a blanket, gloves, a hand warmer, flares, a flashlight, and food. It makes us cold just thinking about it. Oh, and the packages also have a note from his family.
They've got searchers out, but the foggy weather has grounded the search copters.

They're still looking for missing father and CNET editor James Kim. There's a press conference scheduled for 10 a.m. We'll update this post as news comes in.
And in blog-related news, looks like the comments got bad enough on the Chron blogs that they've asked everyone to play nice from here on out. In general, the comments on the chatboards are getting a little less positive and a little more frustrated, so be warned if you're 1) reading them and 2) sensitive to that sort of thing.

Thanks for doing such a fantastic job of updating all of us on this story. It's been really nice to be able to come to one place for all of the new developments here. Fingers crossed that they find James soon.
i'll second that. great work sfist!!!
the news seems to get more positive with each press conference. he's dropping things to be found on purpose. i think things will end positively today.
