We're baaaaaack! (Did you think we'd ever left?) Well, we've moved on to relentlessly houding Gavin Newsom to show up for Question Time and we're also starting to gear up to cover the 2007 Mayoral Election -- but you all know we've still got a special place in our heart for the District 6 election that was.
So what's the latest? Well, it's the moment we election geeks have all been waiting for -- local political site The Usual Suspects has its report from political scientist David Latterman of Fall Line Analytics summarizing how the District 6 election went down, precinct by precinct. (.pdf) (There's also an excellent section on how the District 4 race shook out, but we won't cover that in this post.)
Most importantly -- check out this quote from Latterman's report, beeyotches! "To borrow a phrase from SFist, not everyone hated Chris." WE GOT NAME-CHECKED!!! Yeeeeeeeeah boy!
Okay, back to the facts. Any of you interested in the numbers behind the race, you should read the whole thing, but the stats we found particularly noteworthy are after the jump.
Graphs of Daly and Black's first choice votes by David Latterman of Fall Line Analytics.
--Daly owned Western SOMA, the 'loin, and the Inner Mission, and did better you'd've thought in Mission Bay.
--Black dominated in Mission Bay, Eastern SOMA, and the North Embarcadero -- and did better than you'd've thought in the Civic Center area.
--And intriguingly, 17% of voters who put Rob Black as their first-place choice in RCV had Chris Daly as a second choice, and 20% of Daly first-choice voters had Rob Black as a second choice. Wild! (However, 51% of Daly voters voted only for Daly and 40% of Black voters voted only for Black.)
In summary, the demographic shift from the condos downtown hasn't been significant enough to moderate out the district, the race wasn't as horribly divisive as everyone thought it was (but still -- pretty divisive!), and the Daly campaign simply got more of its supporters to the polls.
As Mr. Latterman says so eloquently, "To borrow a phrase from SFIST, not everybody hated Chris." Ha! We got name-checked!!
Latest percents from the Dept. of Elections as of 12/5/06 : Daly 48.82%, Rob Black, 38.77%. They're still counting.

*yawn*
This still? Will it ever go away?
Daly has quite the mandate doesnt he?
When does Chris show up for question time?
