Bay Area Wanderer: Solid Luck

towardsWelcome to the first post for Bay Area Wanderer, a new SFist feature in which each week we bring you a quick snapshot story from somewhere in the Bay Area.

We'll go somewhere, take a picture, and tell you a tale. Simple.

We'll cover San Francisco, the North Bay, the East Bay, down peninsula way, and -- if we can swing it -- the West Bay. We've always been intrigued by the Farallones.

* Bay Area Wanderer: Polk and Chestnut, San Francisco

Walking North on Polk towards the blue square of the bay caught between the tall buildings. A glint from the sidewalk caught our eye.

Laid in the sidewalk concrete next to a tree was a silver horseshoe with a clover inside it. To each side of the charm was the outline of a small handprint. Kids' handprints? The notes written to the prints had long since worn away.

Was the charm for the tree? The house? The block?

There's no knowing. Hope it worked.
