SFist Tonight: Heavy and Light

dolphinjazz.jpgLight - Castro Tree Lighting at Harvey Milk Plaza. (Market @ Castro) Festivities include performances by the SF Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, the GLAM Youth Choir, the SF Gay Men's Chorus and the Lesbian/Gay Chorus of SF! Celebrity appearances by Supervisor Bevan Dufty, Assemblyman Mark Leno, Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and more. (6:30 - 7:30pm)

Heavy - It appears the Melvins show at the Great American Music Hall is sold out, so we direct your attention to the Hemlock where hardcore sax playing leads heavy rock rhythms, featuring Steve Mackay and the Radon Ensemble (link is to Kimberly Chun's article about Steve in this week's Bay Guardian, scroll past La Kim's poetic waxing about turkey). Mackay played sax for The Stooges in their Funhouse days and has had a long career in the music underground. Locals, No Doctors and the ever-surprising Murder Murder open.
