Yet another PG&E manhole blew up this weekend -- this time, at 5:30 on Sunday at Market and Powell. PG&E blames a faulty cable and says it was no big deal. A witness at the time, however, said he saw flames shooting up out of the ground.
In the big-ticket crime items: the trial of the mom who threw her three children into the bay has started; she's pleading insanity. The SFPD caught a murder suspect! The guy who shot the father hosting a party for his kids in Berkeley was sentenced to 9 years.
And a 14-year-old Atlanta boy traveling with the school band and who was supposed to be changing flights at SFO snuck out of a security checkpoint line around 6 a.m. yesterday. He was last seen on a security camera around 6 a.m., carrying a trumpet case and a carry-on bag. Friends of his say they got a text-message around 12:30 p.m. that said "goodbye." Authorities searched the airport, issued an APB, and then found him at around 9:30 that night at his brother's house in Fort Bragg. You know, if they knew his brother lived in the area, shouldn't they have checked there first?
