American Football Spectacular: Don't Drink & Drive; You May Die, Kill, Or Lose Your Chance To Be A Deep Threat

Dammit, AntonioAhhh crap, 49er WR Antonio Bryant got nailed for DUI Sunday night after the big win over the Seahawks.

Bryant had two catches for 21 yards in the game.

And later, 'round midnight, Mr. Reformed Hothead was clocked above 100 mph in a 2005 Lamborghini between Redwood City and San Mateo. Moron.

When finally pulled over, he was "extremely uncooperative and belligerent to officers," said San Mateo PD Captain Kevin Raffaelli to the Chron. So Antonio got a resisting arrest misdemeanor tacked on to go with the initial reckless driving, drunken driving, and speeding misdemeanor charges.

"It was fairly shocking," Raffaelli said to the Tribune. "He refused to cooperate with the arrest."

Bryant, you dumbass.

So, either today or tomorrow we'll get the apologetic press conference. Whatever, dude.

"The officers were forced to use leather restraints to put Bryant in a seated position with his legs straight and his hands cuffed behind his back," Raffaelli said via NFL.com wire reports. Fun.

Bryant has been a quality free agent pickup for the 49ers this year, proving capable of going over the middle or stretching the field with his speed and size. He'd get demonstratively frustrated from time to time, and all the sportswriters would laud how he was such a competitor, how he just wanted to win so badly, and how he’d left a history of bad behavior behind him. He was the rare case of a "character issue" guy making good on a team giving him a chance.

Bryant had gone out of his way to impress the 49ers, as the tale was retold in the SFGate Niner Turf blog: "He came in, he had a tie on" Head Coach Nolan [II] said in training camp. "He was respectful, he had his pants all pulled up. ...He was very candid about the things he had done and understood that he could do something close to it again, but understood that it was an issue, that he wanted to do something about it, instead of blaming it on everybody else."

The Coach gave him an opportunity, and Bryant produced on the field. It was a positive story, and we were glad for it.

Now this. Disappointing.

Will he miss games? Will Coach Nolan II discipline him? Will he stay with the Niners at all?

The arraignment is set for December 28.

But on the bright side, now Bryant can finally use his major from the University Of Pittsburg: justice administration.
