Who's Attacking Newsom Now!

282815435_bd8eec44ae.jpg

We stole this column idea from Stephen Colbert -- but goodness, a lot of people are attacking Newsom these days, aren't they? Here's today's list! (The Guardian's keeping a list too.)

Ross Mirkarimi!: Ross says that Gavin has been "hoisted by his own petard," in response to mayoral minder Peter Ragone's statements that Mirkarimi is only pushing the foot patrol issue so he (Ross) can run for mayor against Newsom. Ross said the Newsom administration was "desperate to triage their own negligence," and also called Newsom an ostrich.

Bevan Dufty!: Newsom's guy on the board says he told Gavin he was unhappy with the way the police department was being run and that if it meant standing up to the mayor, he'd do it. Bevan!

Peter Uebberoth!: The US Olympic Committee rep put the humanitarian kibosh on the city's Olympic bid after a floundering phone call on Saturday where Newsom desperately tried to salvage the situation about the Niners, to no avail.

The School Board!: Gavin came out in favor of saving JROTC. The Board voted 4-2 to end the program.

and.... the Bay Guardian!: (Sorry, we left them out originally). They dub Gavin "Newsom the Loser" in the wake of his defeats at the voting precincts last week, and wonder how Newsom's going to reconcile his ties with the SFSOS in the future.

But who still loves ya, Gavin? Pat Murphy. "Call me embittered, but bruised Gavin Newsom is the only pol in America I'm irrevocably committed."

You're taking the ostrich comment out of context. Ross was saying that Newsom was like an ostrich with its head in the sand.

Ross also said that Newsom's remarks about the foot patrol issue were "childish" (in today's Chronicle)

also, in the Chronicle on 10/24/06, Gerardo Sandoval said it would be great if Newsom didn't run again for mayor because San Francisco needs an adult to run this city.
