houseacrossbay.jpgWe meant to post on this yesterday but the afternoon kind of got away from us (thank goodness today's Veterans' Day! Thank you, veterans!). An electrical short near the Castro Street MUNI station disabled all the K, L, and M MUNI streetcar lines for three hours yesterday afternoon. They got it fixed around 4, so the afternoon commute wasn't as bad as it could have been. MUNI spokesperson Maggie Lynch apologizes.

There's an investigation underway about whether the vice mayor of East Palo Alto has been making derogatory statements about various racial groups and being kind of abrasive in general. For instance, he offended the Mexican-American mayor by referring to a new store as a "Mexican market," refers to Caucasians as "those people," and said he was going to run the city attorney out of town. When asked to respond, he said, "How can a comment about a white person offend a black man?" and "Why would I [make offensive comments about Caucasians] when it's black folks who are messing up the city?"

Vandals have hit the new Belmont library -- slashing chairs with knives, graffiti-ing walls, and someone stole the number 1 off the address on the front of the building. Councilwoman Coralin Feierback said, "It must be someone who really hates things. It's such an innocent library." She also says, "We can start with cameras in the bathroom, but not in the stall, of course.” Another council member says, "There was a lot of kids in there and not all of them are studying.” Uh oh!
