It's Thursday-- Do You Know Where Your Sports Team is Playing?

CANDLESTICK~Candlestick-Park-San-Francisco-California-Posters.jpgIt's looking like the A's aren't the only one's with itchy feet, the Niners are too. The A.P. is reporting that the Niners are looking at moving too, to either Santa Clara or elsewhere in California.

Once again, the reasons for the Niners dissatisfaction with everything is well known but we should go through them again just for the heck of it. Basically, like the A's, the Niners are playing in a crap stadium that's seen better days and by seen better days we mean pretty much never as the 'Stick pretty much was doomed from the get-go. And like the A's, they've been having trouble getting anything going in terms of a new stadium, partially for the same reason that politics are such a way that doing anything is impossible. The only difference is that you could make a halfway decent effort to explain away a baseball stadium-- lots of games and huge impact on surrounding areas, but not so much a football stadium. Football stadiums are only used at the most ten to eleven times a year and are basically a big waste of civic money.

So Wednesday morning, the Niners notified a schmoopified Gavin that they were planning on pulling up stakes sometime in the future. Talk about ruining a guy's day, Gavin was still probably reeling from the loss of all of his political buds but the Niners threw this at home. Oh yeah, as the new 'Stick was the centerpiece of his Olympics in '16 plans, this put the kibosh on that too.

Now before everyone gets their panties in a bunch let's just say that this could possibly be just more posturing. This is the little game franchises play with cities-- they tell them they might need to take a break and see other people and then the city says okay, we'll start helping around the house a bit more and not fall asleep right afterwards and so then all is good. This is especially true when one of the places the franchise claims to want to see is that Paris Hilton of cities, LA. Every NFL team at one point has looked L.A'.s way and usually gotten what they wanted after playing footsie with the city. We read somewhere that the NFL makes more money without LA as a franchise team mainly because every city uses them for blackmail.

So, in other words, we'll see about what happens because nothing ain't happening yet.

UPDATE- York will have a press conference at 10:30 to discuss what's happening. He also posted a letter on the 49ers site letting everyone know why he's doing what he's doing.
