Day Around The Bay
--The US Attorney's office is going to monitor the SF elections, like we're East Timor or Florida or something.
--Courtney Love was 50 minutes late to her book signing in Corte Madera.
--District 6 candidate Manuel Jimenez confirms neither confirms nor denies that he's Latino (see comments!), with a picture of his baptism.
--The cops get back the discretion to press pot charges.
--Stanford students don't really care about the election.
--Does the Bayview need 2800 housing units?
--The husband of Berkeley City Council member Linda Maio (up for reelection) was arrested after shoving a parking officer over a ticket.
--Topless girls for cancer research [SFW, but just barely.]
--Why's the SF Board of Supes meeting on Election Day?

Campers,
Get real. Kevin Ryan is going to look out for a fixed election? This is the Bush appointee who thinks Katherine Harris is cool? This is all a dog and pony show for an ugly hack whose entire staff hates him and quits in droves. He's trying to establish his anti-San Francisco stance with the national Republican party.
The only way to check out voting irregularities in this town is to check out the counting machines BEFORE they insert the first absentee ballot 3 weeks before the election. Oh yeah, Willie Brown, Jim Sutton and Jack Davis all agree on one thing. That would be that all close SF elections are won through manipulation of absentee ballots. They count them early, so's they'll know how many phony ballots to slide into John Arntz's counting room in the 72 hours before the live vote begins. The FBI, were they serious, would have been on the scene when the first absentee ballots were opened by the crew assigned by the Willie Brown appointed, DOE head, John Arntz. In a few hours they could have verified the count on the first thousand ballots by counting them by hand and then checking what the machines were saying. These voting machines are like the Hal 2000, they'll do whatever you want, including kill the crew.
The FBI lacks the smarts or will to really check out the SF ballot. This is strictly a PR move by a Bush clone. If they were serious, they'd have a team or two of roving programmers going to random polls and inserting dummy ballots to check how the machines are actually counting.
Go and vote anyway and, as they say at the 'Power Exchange': "Save your stub".
h.
When did Courtney Love show up at the King Street Borders on Friday night? I had to leave at 7:30, and she still wasn't there.
"--District 6 candidate Manuel Jimenez confirms that he's not Latino, with a picture of his baptism."
The above is a slanderous statement, and supported by nothing either my blog, from which it was taken, or anything I've ever said. How does a picture of by baptism translate into that quote? I will file an official complaint with the editors of this blog, and will consult my attorney.
BTW, with the exception of my Irish-American mother, and the Irish Priest, everyone in that picture is Mexican-American.
The statement "--District 6 candidate Manuel Jimenez confirms that he's not Latino, with a picture of his baptism." is a slanderous statement, made up from whole cloth, and seems to purposefully misrepresent my blog entry for political purposes. I will consult counsel to see what, if any remedies I have available.
Just to clear things up for other readers: on Manuel's blog at http://district6supervisor.blogspot.com/2006/11/since-i-mentioned-it.html he writes "Jimenez is Latino the same way I'm British, that is, not at all." There's quotes around it, so it looks like he's quoting someone else saying that, but it's not clear who or what they're talking about, so it could be meant to refer to him. It's hard to tell.
Wow - SFist, you call that journalism? - looking at a picture on someone's blog and making conclusions about multi-racial people?
Playing the race card? I thought SFist was above this...sad.
yeah, between that quote and the quote in the earlier entry that said:
it looked to me like he was saying he's not Latino. Sorry for the mixup, Manuel! (maybe be less ambiguous in your writing too -- just a suggestion.)
And hey, while we've got you here, we wanted to say that the stray cat style thing doesn't mean anything, we were just thinking about the Brian Setzer Orchestra when we were writing the entry. Is Brian Setzer Latino?
