When The Lights Go Down In The City
Special running-to-catch-a-flight edition.
Who loves rock and roll? You do! So you better be at The Fillmore this Saturday to see Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. One lucky winner will get a pair of tickets to the show plus an autographed CD, and we'll send another CD to a runner up. Enter to win (contest ends tomorrow at noon; winner will be notified via email).
Tonight Popscene presents SFist interviewees Voxtrot with Love Is All. Gram Rabbit and The Botticellis are at Rickshaw Stop. If we weren't already on a plane headed out of town, we'd be mighty tempted to go to Red Devil Lounge to see "Rockstar: Supernova"'s own Storm Large (billed as Storm & The Balls). It'd be nice to see her take the stage for more than two songs and we'd want to hear "Ladylike" live (you can download the track featuring Dave Navarro on iTunes.)
On Friday The Knife will mesmerize at Mezzanine. Watch their video for
"Heartbeats".
Also on Friday The Bay Bridged presents Rykarda Parasol, Matt Lutz and Petracovich at Edinburgh Castle. At Rickshaw Stop you can see Scissors For Lefty plus DJs Ramesh (Voxtrot).
On Saturday Joan Jett & The Blackhearts descend upon The Fillmore with
Eagles of Death Metal. Voxtrot's still here with Magic Bullets and Yellow Fever at Great American. The Bottom of the Hill has Casiotone For The Painfully Alone and The Dead Science. Or if you want to call it an early night, catch Jonah Matranga (onelinedrawing) and Liz Ross starting at 7:30pm at Make-out Room.
On Sunday Eef Barzelay of Clem Snide plays with the Retribution Gospel Choir (featuring Alan Sparhawk of Low) at Cafe Du Nord. Pixies fans are in for a treat because Amoeba's hosting a free DVD screening of loudQUIETloud: A Film About the Pixies at 12 Galaxies. On Wednesday Slim's presents a stellar lineup of Sparta, Sound Team and one of our favorite new discoveries of this year, As Tall As Lions.
