my favorite paragraph about why Berkeley doesn't want Trader Joe's:

"'Trader Joe's is a nonunion store owned by a secretive German family that sells specialty food and low-cost alcohol,' said Steve Wollmer, who lives 250 feet from the site."

I like the conspiracy implied in "secretive German family." Clearly the secretive Germans have, since WWII, plotted to benefit from selling 2 buck chuck and frozen edamame to a bunch of asian college students and those of Dutch/English descent like Mr. Wollmer. But he's not buying it...nosiree.

Secretive Germans - BEGONE!

Meanwhile, we'd like a Trader Joe's here in upper District 6. It would round out Bristol Farms quite nicely and we wouldn't have to take the bus out to Masonic or Bryant. Pretty please? I promise not to make fun of your ethnic heritage, Joe.
