maybe we should just put up a suicide barrier around the entire city of SF since it's such a magnet for suicidal people.

maybe we could line the streets with soft, fluffy pillows. it would also give others a nice place to take a quick nap!

I'll do the study if someone will fund me...any takers?

there are enough matresses on the sidwalk in the tendo to get a good start.

in related news, the link for gav's police funding goes to the earthquake preparedness page in the examiner.

best wishes,

mark

Here's a summary of the funding request strawman, as near as I can gather:

  • Early '06(?) Budget Approved with line items for police overtime, probation, etc.
  • 7/1 Fiscal year begins, depts. fully funded for next 10-12 months
  • Campaign season arrives
  • Newsom wants to use public safety issue to help his 'bots
  • Issues unnecessary supplemental funding request "for more police overtime"
  • Budget committee says, "Wow, all depts. are fully funded for next 10 months. What is this, crack money?"
  • Newsom pouts and postures over soft-on-crime Daly "blocking" useless request.
  • Now Dufty has added his own vote-for-me motion with a rider on the original wasted request.
