Caltrain Tries Brings the Safety

caltrainlogo.jpgIn lieu of the thirteen fatalities so far this year, Caltrain is stepping up efforts to stop people from getting hit by trains. For the past six months, they've been visiting schools located near Caltrain tracks and telling kids to basically mind the gap. We wonder if they do it the same way they do in driving class where they showed things like "Asphalts of Death" or "Blood Highway" in an attempt to scare people. From what we've heard about getting hit by a train, a few shots of what the carnage looks like would scare the crap out of anyone.

Also on Caltrains' list of things to do is to add fencing to places deemed needing a fence. They are doing this by doing the usual studies and also asking local communities to fill them in on where they think fences should be. A total of $1.5 million dollars is to be spent on building the fencing but right now, the fence still seems to be a ways off from happening. They are also trying to step up non-tresspasssing enforcement and extra signage.

Of course, there are some out there who think the whole Caltrain fatality thing is more Darwin than anything else. After all, avoiding a rushing train with all of it's attendant clanging and rumbling should be fairly easy to do. But that's what government does-- try and keep dumb people from doing dumb things. This then would definately go a long ways to helping that cause.
