Political Junkie: Hair Of The Mayor That Bit You

MayorsPortrait02.jpgBREAKING NEWS..... BREAKING NEWS.... MAYOR HAS RETURNED TO GEL STOP. HAIR HAS RESUMED PREVIOUS CONFIGURATION STOP. [yes, we know, the stop means period, so there is technically no need to put a period after it -- but it's hard to read like that is all. We're just thinking about your reading comfort!]

Yes, folks, it's true -- the floppy-haired Matt Gonzalez look sported by Mayor Gavin Newsom was for one day only. Awwwwwww! We're back to the swept-back, visible-comb-lines-through-the-front (scroll down), crunchy-gelled 'do you all know and love. Tipsters all over town (at press conferences, Project Homeless Connect activities, Claire's Boutique at the mall) confirm these reports. Probably the bangs were getting in his eyes.

Keep checking in with SFist for all the latest mayoral tonsorial (we had to look it up) developments!

[This is unrelated, except for the fact that this was the reason why he got photographed back on the gel, but does anyone else think it's weird that after Gavin dates Sofia Milos, he launches a Cold Case team for the SFPD that Heather Fong says was in response to the CSI TV shows? Will there be an official women's lacrosse team or reality TV show for the city next?]

Thanks to our tipsters for passing the word along!

Rita,

Sometimes we all fall back down to where we were before. Relapse is to be expected, especially from so many years of hitting the bottle (of L.A. Looks).

It's important for us to non-judgementally be there for Gavin at this moment, encouraging him to come back to the meetings and re-work the steps.

Gavin: Today is the first day for the rest of your life.

It's all about the wisdom to know the difference.

We think the return to product will work in the favor of the progressives in the upcoming election. As far as a tactical manoeuver, we feel the resumption of the hair gel solidifies Gavin's image as aligned with corporate downtown business interests.

Were we advising the mayor, we would have encouraged the product-less look, much in the same way Arnie has taken up signing environment-friendly bills so coincidentally close to the election.

Forget the ter'rists, think of Alix Rosenthal.

Rita, I think you are correct that the bangs probably just got in the way. Also, the ladies probably respond better to the crunchy gelled versus crunchy granola look.

If it's true that his bangs were in the way, he should've just, uh, gotten a haircut, not relapsed into Dep Styling Sport Gel hell. I wonder if anyone has left comments about his hair on his blog? (Heads over.)

For years, we have said that Mayor Gavin "Nimby" Newsom looks ridiculous with all that hair gel, like some kind of a cheesy frat boy.

Funny, though, it never occured to us that he IS a cheesy frat boy and he would look even worse without the hairgel. We were embarrassed for Newsom yesterday, even if we are disgusted with his continuing efforts to suburbanize San Francisco.

Hopefully, this experiment ended when the hair gel went back in. Next thing you know, he'll be leaving the Marina/Pac Heights to party.... and the VERY last thing we want to see is Nimby Newsom hanging out at the Zeitgeist with his latest soap opera girlfriend.

Gag us with a (silver) spoon!

Oh come on now! You are using photos from the San Francisco Sentinel as evidence! Given the direction of Pat Murphy's recent turn, we could be seeing three headed Chris Daly photos tomorrow. Just because the Sentinel publishes it doesn't make it fact, possibly, quite the contrary. That's PR News, press release journalism at its worst.

Dude, a picture of a three-headed Chris Daly would be awesome.

Hey, Commenter Larry from the original post got in the Chron today! Yay Larry.

Also -- obviously the next thing for us to do is to get a picture of Matt Gonzalez, with his hair slicked back.
