And We Can See Those Fighter Planes
If you happen to be walking down the street this week and hear this sonic boom over your head and the street rumble, it's not Kim Jong Il finally launching one of his Dong Rockets, it's just that time of the year again, Fleet Week. This year featuring, once again, the Blue Angels.
Of course, this means there'll be the attendant complaints about noise and from the leftier side of the political spectrum, cries of glorification of the military and this is San Francisco and wasted resources. Which we think are all good and valid points, but on when those planes go straight up in the air, come to a complete stop, and then free fall straight back down and then zoom right over our heads and over the Financial District, that's some cool ass sh--. If one of those Spoken Word for Mumia thingies involved flying at break-neck speeds over the Bay and doing loop-de-loops, we'd be all over that too. We also love watching all the ships in the bay because, well, we like big boats and we cannot lie. And judging by the thousands of people who come into the city to watch the thing, brother they can’t deny.
And speaking of thousands of people, what should be of interest is how all of this is going to affect the supposed crackdown in North Beach. Because there's no place sailors like to go like strip clubs and Broadway is jam packed with them. It's actually one of the cooler things to do in the city during Fleet Week-- hanging out near Broadway around 2 and watching the MPs drag drunken sailor after drunken sailor out of bars.
Yeah we know, pretty depraved behavior on those sailors parts, but give them a break, they'll be in Iran in a few weeks.
